Editorial Policy: How We Check, Score and Rank

Editorial policy

Every fact on TourneyTrip comes from an official source, gets checked twice, and shows its source and checked date. Money never changes a score, a rating or a ranking.

How facts get on a page

AI tools help gather facts and draft the text. They do not decide what is true. Each fact is traced to an official source, such as the tournament's own rules page, the host association or the hotel.

A second, independent check then compares each fact to that source again. A page publishes only if both checks agree. If a fact has no official source, we leave it blank or mark it unclear. We do not guess.

Source and checked date

Every fact on a tournament page shows where it came from and the date we last checked it. If the source changes, the page changes and the date updates.

The Housing Fairness score

The score runs from 0 to 100 and is computed only from the tournament's published rules. It looks at things like whether a hotel is required, exemptions, penalties and deadlines. Parent opinions and payments are not inputs. The exact formula is on the method page. If the rules are unclear, the page says "Not scored."

How hotels are ranked

Hotels are ranked only by drive time and parent ratings. Commission is never a factor. The ranking process never sees commission data, so it cannot use it.

Hotel locations and details come from OpenStreetMap. Drive times are computed with OSRM. Amenities such as a pool or breakfast appear only when OpenStreetMap or the hotel's own site states them. Otherwise the page says "not listed."

Parent ratings and reports

Only parents who attended the tournament can rate it. A tournament rating shows only after 5 ratings. Ratings are never paid for or incentivized.

We never remove a rating because a tournament asked or paid. We remove content only for clear rule breaks:

  • It is about the wrong event.
  • It is a personal attack.
  • It names a child.
  • It includes contact details.

Every removal is logged.

Reports from new contributors are noindexed, so search engines skip them, until the contributor has 2 approved reports. Links inside reports are marked rel="ugc nofollow".

Payment and independence

Tournaments, hotels and advertisers cannot pay to change a score, rating or ranking. Our revenue is explained in the affiliate disclosure.

Children

We never publish children's names, rosters or photos. Reports that include them are removed.

Disputes and errors

A tournament can dispute its score by pointing to the rule it believes we misread. If the rule supports a different score, we fix it. Anyone can report an error. See corrections.
