Six of the 8 live Washington and Idaho youth hockey tournaments in our data require out-of-town teams to book the tournament hotel. One says it is not stay to play, and one is unclear.
Every record was checked on Oct 19, 2026. Hosts change pages, so recheck before you pay.
Which ones require the hotel?
Six do, as of Oct 19, 2026. Five of them are run through MYHockey Tournaments and one through CAN/AM Hockey.
- Seatac Veterans Cup, Tacoma, Nov 6 to 8, 2026
- Boise Veterans Cup, Nov 6 to 8, 2026
- CAN/AM Challenge Cup Seattle, Nov 27 to 29, 2026
- Seatac Midwinter Classic, Jan 16 to 18, 2027
- Seatac Presidents Day Cup, Feb 13 to 15, 2027
- Boise Presidents Cup, Feb 13 to 15, 2027
The two Veterans Cups start on the same weekend.
What does the MYHockey rule say?
It says out-of-town teams must book through the host. The Seatac Veterans Cup page reads: "As a condition of acceptance to the tournament, all out-of-town teams MUST reserve rooms through MYHockey Tournaments and stay in an authorized hotel at tournament rates." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026)
The Boise Presidents Cup uses the same sentence and adds a minimum: "A minimum of 24 room nights is mandatory (e.g., 12 rooms x 2 nights = 24 room nights)." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026) Three records in our data quote that 24 room night minimum: both Boise events and the Seatac Presidents Day Cup.
Who counts as out of town?
At the five MYHockey events, anyone more than 70 miles from the rink. The Seatac Midwinter Classic page reads: "Any team whose home rink is more than 70 miles from the tournament rink will be considered an out-of-town team and required to comply with MYHockey Tournaments' hotel policies and procedures." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026)
The pages add that distance is measured with Google Maps' fastest route. The CAN/AM Seattle event uses 60 miles instead: "This Local Team Fee is for teams that live within 60 miles of the tournament location." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026)
CAN/AM's main rule sentence reads: "As a condition of acceptance, all out of town teams more than 60 miles from Seattle must reserve rooms and stay at one of our authorized hotels." Check your own rink against the line before you assume either way.
What is the penalty?
Five of the six required records print one, and it is a hard one. The Seatac Veterans Cup page reads: "Failure to comply will result in expulsion from the tournament, and registration fees will not be refunded." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026)
The same pages say teams that miss the requirement "will be ineligible for semi-final or championship play." CAN/AM Seattle prints no penalty on its page, so ask the host what it does. For more penalty wording from other sports, see Stay-to-Play Penalties, Quoted.
Which ones let you book your own hotel?
One does. The Voyager's Cup is a girls event at Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle, Jan 16 to 18, 2027, and its page reads: "This is NOT a stay to play tournament. Teams are welcome to make their own lodging plans that fit their needs." (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026) Our page is here.
What about Battle in Seattle?
Unclear. The Battle in Seattle page, Apr 2 to 4, 2027, says: "Discounts will not be honored if your team hasn't met the stay to play minimum requirements" (host page, checked Oct 19, 2026)
That line mentions a minimum but does not say whether hotels are required. We did not read it as a yes or a no. Ask TCS before you register.
What should a parent do with this?
Find your rink, measure the miles, and ask your manager who is booking. The first required events start Nov 6, 2026.
- Ask how room nights are counted and when the hotel link closes.
- Ask whether your team is inside or outside the mileage line, and get the answer in writing.
