Minnesota and Wisconsin Youth Hockey Tournaments, Nov and Dec 2026: Which Ones Let You Book Your Own Hotel

As of Oct 18, 2026, 1 of the 223 live Minnesota and Wisconsin youth hockey tournaments starting Nov 1 to Dec 31 says teams may pick any hotel. Ten say a hotel is required.

Last updated Oct 26, 2026. Each record has its own checked date, between Oct 14 and Oct 18, 2026. Hosts change pages, so recheck before you pay.

How many of these tournaments require a specific hotel?

Ten of 223 are required, all in Minnesota, as of the checked dates in the table. Wisconsin has none in this window.

I counted every live hockey record in our data with a Minnesota or Wisconsin state and a first start date from Nov 1 to Dec 31, 2026. That is 177 in Minnesota and 46 in Wisconsin. The split by what the host page says:

• Required: 10 (Minnesota 10, Wisconsin 0)
• Suggested: 81 (Minnesota 74, Wisconsin 7)
• Book Anywhere (not required): 1 (Minnesota 1, Wisconsin 0)
• Unclear: 131 (Minnesota 92, Wisconsin 39)

Some events run several age levels on different weekends. The date column shows every weekend on the record, and I counted each event by its first start date.

Which one says Book Anywhere?

One, as of Oct 14, 2026: the City on the Bay Tournament in Walker, MN. Its page says teams may select any hotel.

The full sentence has a catch: "Teams may select any hotel, but only Chase on the Lake supports Walker Youth Hockey through a marketing agreement" (host page). So you choose, and the host names the hotel that backs the club. The record lists three weekends: Squirt B/B2 in December, then Peewee and Bantam in January.

Our Book Anywhere page tracks these events across sports.

Which ones are suggested?

Eighty-one events are suggested as of the checked dates in the table (Oct 14 to 18, 2026): 74 in Minnesota and 7 in Wisconsin. Suggested means the host points to hotels but states no rule that you must use them.

That is not Book Anywhere. The host did not say you are free to choose, and did not say you must book a certain hotel.

The table lists the Book Anywhere event first, then the suggested events by start date. Names link to our page for the event, and the source link is the host page we read.

Which ones are required, and what do they say?

Ten Minnesota events are required as of the checked dates (Oct 14 to 16, 2026). Here are five, with the host's words exactly as we stored them.

• Gopher State Outdoor Veterans Cup, Nov 6 to 8, 2026, St. Louis Park / Bloomington: "As a condition of acceptance to the tournament, all out-of-town teams MUST reserve rooms through MYHockey Tournaments and stay in an authorized hotel at tournament rates. A minimum of 24 room nights is mandatory (e.g., 12 rooms x 2 nights = 24 room nights)." (host page, checked Oct 16, 2026)
• Blue Ox, Nov 6 to 8, 2026, Moorhead: "In order to keep registration fees low, we will require all traveling teams to reserve rooms via the FMCVB Housing Bureau. All room reservations must be made through the FMCVB Online Housing System" (host page, checked Oct 14, 2026)
• Girls Winter Warm Up, Dec 4 to 6, 2026, Bloomington: "All Bloomington Tournaments are Stay to Play. All visiting teams must stay at one of the sponsoring hotels." (host page, checked Oct 15, 2026)
• NAPHL SHOW Blaine Showcase, Dec 18 to 21, 2026, Blaine: "NAPHL Events are "stay to play". All participating teams must stay at participating partner hotels." (host page, checked Oct 15, 2026)
• Rivalry Cup Minnesota, Nov 20 to 22, 2026, Blaine: "This is a Stay To Play (STP) event. All participating teams/individuals that live outside of an hour are considered a travel participant and must follow the event STP policy, unless otherwise approved by the event director." (host page, checked Oct 16, 2026)

Four of the ten are Moorhead events that share one Housing Bureau sentence. Three are Bloomington events that share one "Stay to Play" sentence. The rest are Gopher State, NAPHL and Rivalry Cup, each with its own wording.

What does unclear mean?

A total of 131 of the 223 are unclear as of the checked dates: 92 in Minnesota and 39 in Wisconsin. The host page does not say either way.

Unclear is not a polite way of saying required, and it is not permission. The page lists hotels or says nothing about lodging.

If your event is unclear, email the organizer and keep the reply. Our guide to booking your own hotel lists questions to ask.

What if a required event has an exemption?

Rivalry Cup Minnesota, Nov 20 to 22, 2026, writes an exemption into its rule, as of its Oct 16, 2026 check. The text sets a distance line of one hour and allows approval by the event director.

That page also says a team that skips the approved hotels pays an opt-out fee, and it does not print the amount. Its hotel list is labeled 2024, so ask the housing contact for current room blocks.

We cover exemptions and mileage rules in Stay to Play Exemptions and Mileage Rules. Read your host page first, then ask in writing.

What should a hockey parent do with this?

The first events start Nov 6, 2026, so check now: find your event in the table, open the host page, and note the date you read it. Then ask your manager what the team plans to do.

• If your event is required, ask how room nights are counted and what happens if a family books elsewhere.
• If it is suggested or unclear, ask the organizer in writing whether other hotels are allowed.
• Ask about the hotel cancellation window before you pay. See hotel cancellation policies.

Our Housing Fairness score weighs a required hotel rule as a cost. The stay-to-play guide explains the term.
