What to know
The 19th annual Northern Lights January Thaw runs January 29 to 31, 2027 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It is open to girls 14s, 15s and 16s and boys 16s and 18s, with play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Entry is $590 per team, and the deadline is December 11, 2026 or earlier if capacity is reached. Friday play starts no earlier than 3:00 pm, and Saturday uses a morning or afternoon wave. Sunday is bracket day, and the last matches could end as late as 4 pm.
The Thaw page says hotel reservations should be made through The THS Company. It points to the Qualifier Stay and Play page and states no room minimum or penalty for the Thaw itself. The Qualifier runs at the same venue that weekend and does require approved hotels from non-local teams.
Canceling before November 30, 2026 refunds the fee minus $100 per team on written request. The page says a team that drops in the window from December 15, 2026 forfeits the entire fee.
