As of Nov 2026, 5 of the 7 Massachusetts and Connecticut youth hockey events in our data require booking through the tournament. Two do not, and none are unclear. Only 3 of the 7 are in Massachusetts, so we added the 4 Connecticut records.

Every record was checked between Oct 15 and Oct 23, 2026. Hosts change pages, so recheck before you pay.

Which Massachusetts events are in our data?

Three, all run by Beantown Classic, as of Nov 2026. Two let you book any hotel and one requires an approved hotel.

The Fall Classic has already finished. We keep it here for completeness, and the Winter Classic page uses nearly the same wording.

What does the Beantown Fall Classic say about hotels?

The record says not required, checked Oct 20, 2026. The page reads: "Teams may use any hotel they choose. For convenience, we recommend reviewing the hotel listings on the host rink, New England Sports Center (NESC), website." (host page, checked Oct 20, 2026)

Games were spread over four rinks: New England Sports Center and Navin Arena in Marlborough, Northstar Ice Sports in Westborough, and Worcester Ice Center in Worcester. The record lists no exemptions and no penalty.

What does the Beantown Winter Classic say?

Also not required, checked Oct 15, 2026, for Jan 29 to 31, 2027. The page reads: "Teams are welcome to use any hotel of their choice. For convenience, we recommend reviewing the hotel listings on the host rink, New England Sports Center (NESC), website." (host page, checked Oct 15, 2026)

The record lists no exemptions and no penalty. The recommendation is a suggestion in the text we found, not a requirement.

Why is the Beantown Women's Classic different?

It is the one Massachusetts record marked required, checked Oct 15, 2026. It runs in July 2027, so it falls outside the 2026-27 season, but the rule is already posted.

The page reads: "The New England Sports Center maintains a strict stay to play hotel policy for events held at its facility. All participating teams requiring accommodations must reserve through an approved hotel option." (host page, checked Oct 15, 2026)

The record's penalty line reads: "Teams that do not follow the hotel policy may not be placed on the tournament schedule." It lists no exemptions. The wording "requiring accommodations" is the host's, and we did not find a mileage line. The page also says "We will be adjusting this process this year, stay tuned." and "Hotel Information will be available soon." Expect the details to change.

Weekend 1 (Jul 15 to 18) covers 2012 through 2017 birth years. Weekend 2 (Jul 22 to 25) covers Futures, College Elite, Super Series and Adult Women Rec. Games are at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Northstar Ice Sports in Westborough and Worcester Ice Center in Worcester.

What do the CAN/AM Shelton events require?

Three CAN/AM events based at The Rinks at Shelton in Shelton, CT, are marked required, checked Oct 23, 2026. The host pages say games are also played at Wonderland of Ice Arena and other local rinks. The rule reads: "As a condition of acceptance, all out of town teams more than 60 miles from Shelton must reserve rooms and stay at one of our authorized hotels." (host page, checked Oct 23, 2026)

All three pages add: "Your families will conveniently make and pay for their hotel reservations right on the CAN/AM Hockey website."

Who counts as local at Shelton?

Teams within 60 miles of the rink, as of the Oct 23, 2026 check. The host page says: "This Local Team Fee is for teams that live within 60 miles of the tournament location."

The record lists that line as the exemption. We did not find how the host measures the miles, so ask before you assume your team is inside the line. We covered the same host in the CAN/AM 60 mile line post.

What is the CAN/AM penalty?

All three Shelton records print a money penalty, checked Oct 23, 2026. It sits on the Out of Town Package tab: "Teams failing to meet the minimum number of room nights will be charged $50 per room night short."

The minimum is a total of 20 room nights during the tournament. The record does not list a refund rule or an expulsion line, and we do not claim one. For penalty wording from other hosts, see Stay-to-Play Penalties, Quoted.

What does the Connecticut Showcase say?

It is marked required, checked Oct 23, 2026. The page reads: "THF operates a Stay-to-Play policy for all showcases and playoffs." (host page, checked Oct 23, 2026)

The record lists three weekends. They are 9U to 12U on Nov 6 to 8, 2026, 13U to 14U on Dec 11 to 13, 2026, and 15U to 18U on Jan 16 to 18, 2027. The November event page lists four rinks: Bolton Ice Palace in Bolton, Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, Enfield Twin Rinks in Enfield and Milford Ice Pavilion in Milford. Our record also lists Newington Arena in Newington, which that page does not show, so confirm the rink for your age group. The page header still prints 2025 for the year, so we took the dates from the THF showcase list.

The page also says: "our organization receives a commission or "rebate" from the hotels for all rooms booked through our designated provider." We did not find a penalty, a mileage line or an exemption on the page. We also did not find the name of the hotel provider, because the page does not name one for 2026-27. The Connecticut Showcase page has the record.

What should a parent do with this?

Check which row your team is in, then ask your manager who books the rooms. The first required events start Nov 6, 2026, at Shelton and at the Connecticut Showcase.

  • Ask how many room nights the team needs. At Shelton the minimum is 20.
  • Ask where your home rink sits against the 60 mile line, and get the answer in writing.
