As of Oct 23, 2026, all 16 CAN/AM Challenge Cup events on our list put the hotel requirement on teams more than 60 miles away. The line is the same everywhere. The fee for teams inside it is not.
Rules change, so read the live page before you book. Nothing here is a ruling on your team, and CAN/AM decides who counts as local.
What does the CAN/AM rule actually say?
Each of the 16 pages carries one rule sentence, and only the city name changes, as of Oct 23, 2026. The sentence is below, with Ann Arbor as the example.
"As a condition of acceptance, all out of town teams more than 60 miles from Ann Arbor must reserve rooms and stay at one of our authorized hotels."
The Ann Arbor page adds: "Your families will conveniently make and pay for their hotel reservations right on the CAN/AM Hockey website." The Las Vegas page carries only the first sentence. (host page, checked Oct 23, 2026)
The Out of Town Package tab words it a little differently: "all out-of-town teams located more than 60 miles from the tournament location must book accommodations at one of our designated hotels." (package tab, checked Oct 23, 2026)
What do teams inside 60 miles get?
Every page lists a separate Local Team Fee, and says what it is for. As of Oct 23, 2026, the wording is identical on all 16 pages.
"This Local Team Fee is for teams that live within 60 miles of the tournament location."
The page does not say local teams are exempt from the hotel rule, and it does not say how the 60 miles is measured. The 16 event pages print no penalty, deadline or refund terms for the rule either. Each event's Out of Town Package tab does print a 20 room night minimum and a "$50 per room night short" charge. If you live near the line, ask CAN/AM in writing which fee applies to your team.
Which events are there, and what are the dates, rinks and fees?
Here are the 16 events in date order, from the host pages as re-read on Oct 23, 2026. TourneyTrip compiled the table, and the fee is the Local Team Fee per team as printed on each page.

*The Lake Tahoe page prints $2,350.00 with an asterisk after it, and the asterisk is not explained next to the fee. Division ranges are the age groups the host lists. Each event has its own set of AAA, AA, A and B levels, so check the page for yours.
Where does the 60-mile line move from city to city?
Each page names a city in the rule, as of Oct 23, 2026, and the rink can sit a fair way from it. The rule names "Ann Arbor" while games are at Hartland Ice House in Hartland, MI, with select games at Yost Arena, pending availability.
Salt Lake City is the clearest case. Games are at Weber County Sports Complex in Ogden, UT, while the rule names Salt Lake City. Lake Tahoe splits games across a California rink and a Nevada one.
One page reads differently from its title. The Tampa Bay event is at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel, FL, but its rule says "more than 60 miles from Fort Myers." We quote it as printed. Ask CAN/AM which city your distance counts from.
How different are the local fees?
The fees run from $2,100 at Salt Lake City to $2,750 at both Shelton events, a spread of $650, as of Oct 23, 2026. Seattle charges $2,600 at both of its events.
Nashville charges $2,450 at all three of its dates. Denver, Ann Arbor and Washington, DC each print $2,400. These are team fees for the tournament side only, and the out-of-town packages are priced per person.
For the Ann Arbor event, the Out of Town Package tab lists $520 per person on the Premium package for the weekend, double occupancy, with hotel, tournament and gate fees included. Hotel parking is not included.
The same tab sets a 20 room night minimum for out-of-town teams and says: "Teams failing to meet the minimum number of room nights will be charged $50 per room night short." It also says rates are valid until 60 days before the event. The other 17 tabs we checked on Oct 23, 2026 print the same terms, except Denver, which has no tab. Package prices differ by event, so open the tab for your event.
What should you ask CAN/AM before you book?
Ask three things in writing, and keep the reply. None of the 16 event pages answers them as of Oct 23, 2026.
- How is the 60 miles measured, and from which address?
- Does the Local Team Fee replace the hotel requirement for my team?
- What happens if a team's families book somewhere else?
If you want the general version of the email, see how to ask for a stay-to-play exemption. For how other hosts draw their lines, see Stay-to-Play Exemptions: 75 and 80 Mile Rules, Quoted. Seattle's other hockey tournaments are in Washington and Idaho Youth Hockey 2026-27: Hotel Rules Quoted.
Frequently asked questions
Do CAN/AM teams within 60 miles have to use the tournament hotels?
The host pages say the requirement applies to out-of-town teams more than 60 miles away. They also list a Local Team Fee for teams that live within 60 miles. As of Oct 23, 2026, no page explains how the distance is measured, so ask CAN/AM in writing.
How much is the CAN/AM local team fee?
It ranges from $2,100 per team at Salt Lake City to $2,750 at both Shelton events, as of Oct 23, 2026. Each page calls it a Local Team Fee and lists it separately from the Out of Town Package.
What happens to an out-of-town team that books elsewhere?
The 16 event pages we re-read print no penalty, deadline or refund terms for the hotel rule itself. The Out of Town Package tab at every event except Denver, which has no tab, does print a 20 room night minimum and a $50 charge per room night short. Ask CAN/AM what applies to your team before you book anything.
