Minnesota and Wisconsin Youth Hockey Tournaments, January 2027: Hotel Block or Book Anywhere

As of Oct 21, 2026, 4 of 208 live Minnesota and Wisconsin youth hockey tournaments in January 2027 require a hotel. One says teams may pick any.

Each record has its own checked date, from Oct 14 to Oct 21, 2026. Hosts edit their pages, so reread the host page before you pay.

The January 2027 count

We count 208 events as of Oct 21, 2026: 162 in Minnesota and 46 in Wisconsin. Each is a live hockey record with at least one date in January 2027.

• Required: 4 (all Minnesota)
• Book Anywhere: 1 (Minnesota)
• Suggested: 66 (60 Minnesota, 6 Wisconsin)
• Unclear: 137 (97 Minnesota, 40 Wisconsin)

Wisconsin has no required event in January. Some records bundle several age levels, so the date column lists every January weekend on the record.

Four events that require a hotel

Four Minnesota events were marked required on Oct 14 and 15, 2026. Each quote below is the host's wording as we stored it.

Squirt Shootout, Bloomington

Squirt Shootout runs Jan 7 to 10, 2027 in Bloomington, MN, and the host page was checked Oct 15, 2026. It says: "All Bloomington Tournaments are Stay to Play. All visiting teams must stay at one of the sponsoring hotels."

Girls Cupid Classic, Bloomington

Girls Cupid Classic runs Jan 28 to 31, 2027 in Bloomington, MN, and the host page was checked Oct 15, 2026. It uses the same sentence as the Squirt Shootout.

VFW MN Invitational, Moorhead

VFW MN Invitational runs Jan 28 to 31, 2027 in Moorhead, MN, and the host page was checked Oct 14, 2026. It says: "In order to keep registration fees low, we will require all traveling teams to reserve rooms via the FMCVB Housing Bureau. All room reservations must be made through the FMCVB Online Housing System"

The sentence goes on: "tournament rates will not be available for reservations made directly with the hotels and those reservations will not count toward the team's commitment." The page also carries the heading "MYHA Tournament Lodging-All MYHA tournaments are Stay-to-Play." We re-read both on Oct 21, 2026.

Moorhead Youth Hockey Association Tournaments 2026-27

The Moorhead Youth Hockey Association Tournaments were checked Oct 14, 2026. January weekends in Moorhead, MN are Jan 1 to 3, 8 to 10, 15 to 17 and 22 to 24, 2027. The page carries the same Housing Bureau wording as the VFW event.

Exemptions on the required events

None of the four required events has an exemption in our records, as of Oct 14 and 15, 2026. That says what we stored, not what an organizer would allow if asked.

Ask in writing if you think one applies. The exemptions and mileage guide shows how hosts word these clauses.

The one Book Anywhere event

The City on the Bay Tournament in Walker, MN, was the only January 2027 event marked Book Anywhere, as of Oct 14, 2026. Its host page says: "Teams may select any hotel, but only Chase on the Lake supports Walker Youth Hockey through a marketing agreement."

City on the Bay Tournament has January dates of Jan 8 to 11 and Jan 22 to 24, 2027, and December dates besides. The choice is yours, though the host names the one hotel that backs the club. We re-read the host page on Oct 21, 2026.

Our Book Anywhere page tracks these events across sports.

How to read the suggested and unclear rows

The 203 rows below were checked between Oct 14 and Oct 21, 2026. Suggested means the host lists hotels but states no rule to use them.

Unclear means the host page does not say either way. Treat it as unknown, and ask. Each name links to our event page, which has the host source and the stored wording.

Minnesota: suggested and unclear

Minnesota has 157 events in this table: 60 suggested and 97 unclear, from checks dated Oct 14 to Oct 21, 2026.

Wisconsin: suggested and unclear

Wisconsin has 46 events in this table: 6 suggested and 40 unclear, from checks dated Oct 15 to Oct 18, 2026.

Before you book

The first January weekends start Jan 1, 2027, so check your event now. Open the host page and note the date you read it.

If the event is required, ask how room nights are counted. If it is suggested or unclear, ask the organizer in writing whether other hotels are allowed. Ask about the hotel cancellation window before you pay: see hotel cancellation policies.
